Vote Ron Taylor for School Board District B

For 12 years, the Clark County School District has spiraled downward in all aspects of education. It is at the bottom in the nation for test scores, student success, and dropout rates.  Teacher morale and retention have never been lower.

To save CCSD and provide quality educational opportunities for the children of Las Vegas, massive changes must take place within the School Board and the school district.  Children have to become the main focus of the district, with all resources being directed at classrooms and teachers.  Nice office space and ivory towers should never take precedence over smaller classes and more educational resources for students.

The communication gap between teachers and administrators must be restored.  Teachers must take a stand for children by taking back their classrooms and saying no to an abundance of unnecessary and redundant testing. Administrators must be required to listen to and respect the opinions of classroom teachers.  Manpower in CCSD must be shifted down and into the classrooms, not in wasteful positions that do not involve working directly with students.

As a School Board Trustee, I will listen to all parents and throw the 3 minute speaking limitation out the door; it will take more than 3 minutes to solve the problems of CCSD.  I have been a classroom teacher for 17 years and have always valued parents' opinions. Parents need to be given greater authority over decisions that effect their children such as calendar and curriculum changes.  Parents, teachers, and administrators need to come together to work as one team.

I will work to get rid of social promotions and require that all students develop  literacy in English.  Students cannot continue to leave the school system without the basic skills necessary to obtain employment and participate successfully in a democratic society.

On August 12th, vote for Ron Taylor for School Board Trustee.  I will be  a true advocate for students and their right to a quality education. I will  honor your vote by encouraging parental involvement and implementing parental suggestions.  Together, we can take CCSD from worst to first and show this state what it means to truly put "children first."
